Volunteer with Daraja Music Initiative in Tanzania!

  • On February 11, 2026

Looking for a summer adventure? I encourage you to check out volunteering with the Daraja Music Initiative. The organization provides music lessons to children in Moshi, Tanzania. You would help teach small-group string and general music classes at a local school, live with other teachers in a house in the town, learn about everyday life, and bring music to really motivated students. Best of all, a 3-day safari is included! You can volunteer for anywhere between 2 to 6 weeks.

You can learn more at an information meeting on Zoom on Thursday, Feb. 12. Contact info@darajamusicinitiative.org for the meeting’s Zoom link. I wrote about my experience in American String Teacher journal, the May 2024 issue, which you can find on the ASTA website, https://www.astastrings.org/.

Can’t make it to Tanzania this summer, but still want to contribute to DMI and make an impact? Please consider making a monetary or donation of instruments or strings. Please email us: info@darajamusicinitiative.org.
